Words To Students
research My name is Martin Mahler, I am currently teaching a number of business related subjects at the Study Abroad Institute, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics. Over the years, I have been working for a number of tertiary institutes in China as well as New Zealand, and truly believe in the benefits that students get from spending some time in a transition programme as opposed to going overseas directly.
Studying at a university in the US, UK, Australia or New Zealand is very different to what studying in China is like. Over the years, I have seen a number of bright Chinese students fail their courses in New Zealand, simply because they did not know as to what is expected from them and because they failed to get used to the way of study that included more self-directed learning. sa
Attending a transition programme, such as the one offered by the Study Abroad Institute allows students to get used to the way of teaching in a university of their choice abroad. The teaching methods that we use, is designed to slowly get the students used to the teaching approach overseas, which I believe would certainly make it easier for students once they go abroad.
